"an introduction might be nice..."
Born and raised in Warwick, NY, photography and an appreciation for art was something I did not find right away. I can't draw or paint to save my life. Not until my last year of high school did I take a photo class. I went to Ithaca College Undeclared my first year and snuck into my intro photo class there and everything fell into place. Seemed perfect, I can play around with a camera and not have to type papers all night long. I'll admit that most of my growth and learning in my first three years of college was done at a party or a bar, but as I came into my last year I found myself falling in love with my senior project, Silent Statues. Stealing the best of new digital technology and the simplicity of a "toy camera", I set out to explore the decay of some of the north east's dilapidating agricultural structures; old barns. This project connected my childhood and family with what I had learned in college and allowed me to express that in the photographs.

After moving to San Diego in 2006, I searched for a new project to work on. Becoming involved in the surf culture surrounding the beach towns of Southern California lead me to my current passion. Surf Photography is beautiful medium. It is also a medium that is hard to master. The physical aspects of swimming with a camera, dealing with the energy of the ocean, and trying not to get sand in your equipment, to finding good surfers, getting good waves, and dealing with the harsh California sun, are all a photographers nightmare. Making a name for yourself (before people find out that you are a transplant from the east coast) is the hardest part. So why not stand out by creating images using equipment that no one else is using? These surf images are not created like most are these days. I shoot real medium format film which gives me 12 shots at best on a roll. Because of this limitation, my trigger finger is very picky. I might miss a shot or 2, but I believe that the training in selection will only benefit my photographic eye. Please enjoy the Surf Images.
